Traveling Patients

We strive to deliver excellent care to each patient. And we often host traveling patients for their surgery and postoperative stay.  For many patients traveling outside of their hometown is well worth the trade-off to find the right surgeon who can give them the results they desire.

FACE Leawood is located within the greater Kansas City area. Dr. Umstattd and the FACE team are well versed in helping traveling patients throughout the entire process, from initial consultation to surgery to postoperative follow ups.

PREPARING FOR SURGERY

Complementary Photo Screening:
Before scheduling a consultation, we will first have you send in a few photos for Dr. Umstattd to assess. Following her review of your photos, our office will follow up with tentative recommendations and full pricing information.

Scheduling a Virtual Consultation:
Dr. Umstattd reserves a full hour for each surgical consultation. You'll discuss the details of each procedure, the risks, benefits, anticipated outcomes, and her specific recommendations for you based on your areas of concern and anatomy. Virtual consults are performed on Zoom.

Virtual Consultation:
The Zoom consultation will be an hour long. The majority of the meeting will be discussing your concerns, your health history, and your surgical options with Dr. Umstattd. She will discuss each procedure in detail, including the downtime, risks, and anticipated outcomes. At the end, our Patient Coordinator will finish the meeting by reviewing your quote and scheduling your surgery.

Booking Surgery:
We are typically booked out about 6+ weeks in advance.

One month before your surgery:
You will meet virtually with our Patient Coordinator to discuss the final details of your procedure, go over all supplies and medications related to the procedure, and answer any questions. We also offer a complimentary session with one of our nurses to discuss preoperative nutrition and other ways to optimize your wound healing.

One day before your surgery:
You will come into the office to meet Dr. Umstattd in person where she can answer any last-minute questions. You will also be meeting with one of our nurses to go over medications and supplies.

We ask that you stay in the local area for 7-10 days (the length of your stay depends on your procedure). This allows Dr. Umstattd to follow up with you, check on your recovery, and ensure that you’re healing well. Once you are cleared by Dr. Umstattd, you may fly/drive home, and we can do further follow-ups virtually. In rare circumstances, patients may be asked to stay in the area for up to 2 weeks postoperatively.
